The 2024 Macro-Energy Systems Workshop will take place over 2 days and will feature a series of lightning talks, poster sessions, community-building workshops, activities, and games. The MES Workshop will be hosted at the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University. Sponsors include Breakthrough Energy, the Center for Policy Research on Energy and the Environment, and the Princeton ZERO Lab.

Lightning Talks
Lightning Talks are 5-minute presentations on research conducted by the MES Community. They will be followed by Poster Sessions where presenters will have the opportunity for more intimate conversations with the MES community and those in attendance.
Keynote Speakers
Dr. Emily Grubert
Emily Grubert is Associate Professor of Sustainable Energy Policy, and, concurrently, of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at the University of Notre Dame. She previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Carbon Management (2021-2022) and Senior Advisor for Energy Asset Transformation (2022-2023) at the US Department of Energy. Her research focuses on justice-oriented deep decarbonization and decision support tools related to large infrastructure systems, with emphasis on physical and social transition in communities hosting industrial infrastructure. In particular, she is interested in the dynamics of deindustrialization, (re)industrialization, environmental justice, and safety. Grubert holds a Ph.D. in Environment and Resources from Stanford University.
Dr. Tony Reames
As a multidisciplinary scholar, with degrees in engineering and social science, Associate Professor Reames' research agenda seeks to connect the areas of technological advancement, the policy process, and social equity. His research extends the environmental justice scholarship to focus on energy justice. He is currently exploring disparities in residential energy generation, consumption, and affordability—centering on the production and persistence of inequality by race, class, and place.
Dr. Reames recently took a leave of absence from his responsibilities at SEAS to serve as Principal Deputy Director for State and Community Energy Programs, and Deputy Director for Energy Justice at the U.S. Department of Energy. He led the Office of Energy Justice Policy and Analysis in the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity. In this role, he spearheaded the agency’s plan to implement President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative and was responsible for energy justice policy and analysis to ensure energy investments and benefits reached frontline communities and Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color. He deployed $16 billion in support of energy efficiency measures and clean energy planning, aiding communities that bear the worst impacts of the climate crisis.
